Many of our members, including myself, have not been to Mendelsons before. Mendelsons is a surplus store that concentrates on electronic parts.
The apparently have everything from brass gears to industrial machinery to the inserts for cash registers.
Mendelsons however is located up in Dayton so we decided to put together a group trip. We will be meeting at the hackerspacebuilding at 9:00 am on Saturday, August 22, 2009.
There is talk about possibly stopping at the IKEA store to pick up people that live north of Cincinnati. If we do so we will be stopping there at 10:00 am.
*Update* We will be stopping at the Ikea parking lot to pick up people. If you want to meet there, please be there by 10:00 am.
Every week we get together to share project progress and deal with the business matters for the space. Every so often a special guest shows up to demo something really cool that they have been working on. That happened at the last meeting when Joe stopped by to show off his Sketchduino. He has taken an Etch-a-Sketch and paired it with an Arduino and a laptop to draw any image. He gave a demo using one of our logos. Check out the YouTube video of the demo!
This week we will be finalizing plans for our trip to Mendelson this coming weekend, and hearing status updates on various projects, including Dave’s progress with the MakerBot.
The space will be open for people to come on down and hang out with us for the meeting. If you want to stop on by, please park out on the street. If there is nobody out front then walk around back to the loading dock, the door should be open. Walk in the back door, take the first door on your right and we are the double doors on the end.
As always the meeting will be happening at the Anchor Building and the meeting agenda is on our wiki: August 18, 2009 feel free to update the agenda.
Lots of stuff happening this Saturday down at the space. We will be working on running network cable around the space, Dave will be coordinating the construction of our new MakerBot, Craig is going to be working on the MAME cabinets, Kris is delivering a soda vending machine, Erik is dropping off a stove, and we have an international visitor from Germany stopping by to hang out with us.
Pizza will be supplied (Adriattico’s) however you are encouraged to bring your own beverages.
People will begin showing up at 10:00 am to either hang out or get stuff ready for networking the space, the actual running of the cables will start at 5:30 pm. If you can bring tools, here is what we think we will need:
Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 11th, 2009.
Major topics will include continuing planning for the Hive13 Kickoff Party, updates on the networking and colo server, and the purchase/installation of the lock box and a stove.
Hive13 aims to create a place where a diverse community of makers can collaborate and pursue creative projects. Hive13 promotes science & technology education, open source values, and skill sharing amongst it’s members and the community.
