Hive13 quiet for a while....

By Will B on

In light of the rapidly escalating COVID-19 pandemic Hive13 leadership is taking action to help protect its members and ensure we are doing our part to prevent the spread of the disease.

Effective immediately Hive13 Tuesday evening public meetings will cancelled. These changes/cancellations will be in effect until the virus situation is under control.

Members are currently free to continue to use the space with the understanding that, as always, they assume the risks of being there including contracting the COVID-19 virus from others. We also wish to remind members of our stance on "Being Excellent To Each Other" which ALWAYS implies staying away from Hive13 when you pose a health risk to others. While at Hive13 please take all recommended precautions including washing hands, cleaning surfaces, and limiting direct contact with each other. For those of us that do wish for social interactions during this time, all members are encouraged to discuss all things making related on Slack and the mailing list.

As always, take care of yourselves and one another.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation,

Hive13 Leadership

What are We Making at Hive13?

By Tara Keller on

Here at Hive13, you'll always find a variety of creations being worked on. Here's a few of our members' in progress and finished projects!

Dave S. made a model of the SpaceX Falcon 9! He 3D printed the white body of the rocket, while Kevin M.  resin printed the black landing gear and “rudders, I think, I’m going to call them rudders.” He plans to hang the rocket in our new Hive space!

Gautam S. used the Ultimaker 2 to make a very unique version of the beloved Pokemon Pikachu

Kevin M. made a trophy for a horse show association, it's to be a perpetual trophy, used every year.  It's inspired by her recently passed horse, Bug (Program Error), and the art is by K. Alexandra Soler, Kevin did the manufacturing of it.

Record growth and we are moving!

By jim on

Old-timers will remember Hive13 started way back in June of 2009 when 12 members started renting 3,5oo sq.ft. of space at 2929 Spring Grove Ave.  By February 2017 we'd grown to 64 members and added an adjacent 600 sq.ft. of annex space.  Today we are at 97 members and are busting at the seams!

We've been looking into ways to expand, and have reached a decision.  We are "Getting Down" and "Moving Up".  A nearby property (down the street) at 2701 Spring Grove Ave. has come on the market and we are moving in (up on the 3rd floor) to a newer, bigger, and better space.

We are starting a five-year lease with 7,000 sq.ft. and options to expand to 11,500 sq.ft. or a mind-boggling 17,500 sq.ft. of continuous space overlooking the beautiful CSX Queensgate freight yard in our lovely Camp Washington neighborhood.

This link [ Hive13 is moving to 2701 Spring Grove Ave! ] points to an on-line, 14-slide, virtual tour and introduction to the new space, at this early point.  Pay attention to the last slide #14.  We need everyone's participation to help make it happen and be out of 2929 Spring Grove on May 31, 2020.
